Privacy Policy — Step Counter (Android)
Last updated: May 2026
Apps covered: Step Counter on Android
1. Introduction
Step Counter (“App”) helps you track daily activity such as steps and related wellness-style metrics on your Android device. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you use the App.
By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
We do not sell your personal information.
2. Important points (summary)
- Most core activity and preference data stays on your device in local app storage unless you uninstall the app or clear app data (subject to backups below).
- We use third-party services from Google that may collect or process identifiers and usage-related signals needed for ads, Remote Config, and device services.
- You can limit some processing via Android permission settings (e.g., Notifications, Physical Activity / fitness sensors, Location) and, where available, privacy choices offered by Android and advertisers.
- The App provides general wellness-style information, not medical advice.
3. Categories of information
Depending on how you use the App and which permissions you grant, we may process:
A. Fitness and motion-related data
- Steps and related aggregates (including estimates such as approximate distance/calorie-style metrics depending on settings and sensors).
- Streak / goal-related values derived locally from your activity within the App.
B. Optional location-derived data
- If you grant location permission, the App may obtain device location signals (for example latitude/longitude accuracy within typical Android limits) to compute or improve fitness-related calculations shown in the App (such as estimates tied to motion or movement). Granting location is optional where the App asks for it; you can revoke it anytime in Android settings.
C. App settings and preferences
- Stored on your device, such as: theme, units, goals, widget options, notification preferences, and similar settings (stored locally, e.g., in app preferences).
D. Notifications and reminders
- If enabled, scheduling data needed to remind you according to your settings (typically stored locally).
E. Device, connectivity, and app technical data
- App version and basic diagnostics needed for the App and integrated SDKs.
- Information needed to communicate over the Internet (requests to servers/SDKs).
- Advertising-related identifiers permitted on your device (Advertising ID) where declared and permitted by Android / Google policies.
4. How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide and operate Step Counter features (counting/displaying steps, widgets, motivational features you enable).
- Personalize aspects of your experience inside the App (preferences you choose).
- Deliver and optimize advertisements via Google Mobile Ads when ads are enabled in the release build.
- Fetch Firebase Remote Configuration parameters (for example enabling/disabling capabilities or retrieving configuration values used by the App).
- Show or request feedback using Google Play In-App Review when supported by Play services.
- Improve reliability (for example diagnosing issues attributable to integrations that collect technical signals).
5. Local storage, backups, and retention
On-device: Most preference and activity-derived data processed for core features is maintained locally on your device.
Removal: Clearing the App’s storage or uninstalling normally removes locally stored App data from the device.
Backup: Depending on Android and your device backup settings, some app data might be eligible for backup under your chosen backup provider’s rules. Backup behavior is partly controlled by Android and device settings—not solely by us.
6. Third-party services and links
The App incorporates services that may process data under their own policies:
- Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) — ads and related measurement. See Google’s policies and disclosures relevant to Ads: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and Google Ads / privacy guidance as updated by Google.
- Firebase (Remote Config in this App) — configuration values delivered to the App. See Google’s Firebase terms/privacy disclosures as applicable: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Google Play services components commonly used alongside ads and device features — processing may occur per Google policies for those components.
Third parties may combine information across apps or websites according to their own policies unless restricted by Android settings.
7. Legal bases (EEA / UK users — general information)
Where applicable privacy laws require a lawful basis for processing:
- Processing necessary to provide the App you request,
- Processing based on legitimate interests that are not overridden by your rights (for example securing the App against abuse consistent with integrations),
- Processing for analytics/measurements related to ads where permitted and based on consent or lawful alternatives as implemented by platforms,
- Processing based on consent where required (for example optional permissions you grant in Android).
You may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object, or port data depending on jurisdiction; contact us with requests and we’ll respond consistent with applicable law.
8. Permissions
The App may request or declare permissions including:
You can revoke most permissions anytime in Android Settings.
9. Advertising and choices
Advertising may rely on identifiers and aggregated signals handled by Google and partners. Depending on Android version:
- Adjust ad-related preferences in Android settings (Ads / Advertising / Privacy wording varies by version).
- Industry opt-outs may apply in some contexts; availability varies by region and participation.
Because ad behavior can change with Remote Config, specific ad formats/placements shown at a given time may evolve.
10. Children’s privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have unintentionally processed such information, contact us so we can take appropriate steps.
11. Security
We use reasonable measures appropriate to our role in operating the App. No method is 100% secure. Information processed by integrated third-party SDKs is subject also to those vendors’ safeguards.
12. International transfers
If you access the App from outside [your country] (insert your jurisdiction), processing may involve servers/providers in countries where vendors operate facilities. Providers may rely on safeguards required by applicable law.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this policy to reflect operational, legal, or technical changes. The Last updated date will change accordingly. Continuing to use the App after updates constitutes acceptance where permitted by law. Material changes should be communicated as required (for example updated listing text or prominent App notice).
