1. Introduction

PDFox ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use our PDFox application available on both iOS and Android platforms.

By using PDFox, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy. We comply with applicable data protection laws including GDPR and CCPA.

2. Platform-Specific Information

2.1 For iOS Users:

  • PDFox follows Apple's App Store guidelines

  • Complies with iOS privacy requirements including App Tracking Transparency

  • Respects iOS permissions and privacy controls

  • Supports iOS Files app integration

2.2 For Android Users:

  • PDFox follows Google Play Store policies

  • Complies with Android permissions system

  • Respects Android storage access framework

  • Supports Android file management systems

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Document Data

  • Most tools (merge, split, edit, sign, watermark, scan, OCR, image to PDF and similar) process your files on your device
  • Some conversions between PDF and Word, Excel or PowerPoint formats require an internet connection. For these, the file you select is sent over an encrypted connection to a conversion server, converted, and returned to your device

  • We do not use the content of your documents for advertising or analytics.

3.2 Platform-Specific Data
For iOS:

  • Device information (iOS version, device model)

  • Photo Library access for selected images only

  • Camera usage for scanning features

  • Files app integration data

For Android:

  • Device information (Android version, device model)

  • Gallery access for selected images only

  • Camera usage for scanning features

  • Storage access for file management

3.3 File Metadata

  • File names, sizes, types, and creation dates

  • Used only for app functionality

  • Processed locally on your device

  • Not transmitted externally

3.4 Image Data

  • When using image-to-PDF conversion, we access photos you select

  • Images are processed locally for PDF conversion

  • No images are stored or transmitted externally

3.5 Camera Data

  • Camera access used for document scanning and QR code scanning

  • Captured images processed locally

  • No camera data stored or transmitted

    3.6 Usage and Diagnostic Data

    • Which tools are opened and general app usage events
    • Crash reports and performance data
    • An app installation identifier created by Firebase
    • This data does not include the content of your documents

    3.7 Advertising Data

    • Our advertising partner may collect device identifiers (such as the advertising ID, if you allow tracking), IP address, approximate location derived from it, and ad interaction data

    3.8 Purchase Information

    • Subscriptions are purchased through your Apple ID. We do not receive or store your payment card details
    • The App checks with the App Store whether a subscription is active and keeps that status on your device

4. How We Use Information

4.1 Local Processing
All PDF operations occur locally:

  • Merge, split, compress PDFs

  • Convert images to PDF

  • Extract text (OCR) from documents

  • Add watermarks and signatures

  • Rearrange PDF pages

  • Unlock password-protected PDFs

4.2 File Management

  • Processed files saved locally on your device

  • History stored locally until cleared by you

  • Platform-specific storage:

    • iOS: Documents stored in Files app/PDFox folder

    • Android: Documents stored in device storage/PDFox folder

4.3 Performance Optimization

  • Device information used to optimize app performance

  • Anonymized usage data for bug fixes and improvements

  • No personal document data included

    4.4 Subscriptions: Subscription status is used to unlock premium features and remove advertisements.

    4.5 Advertising: Advertising data is used to show ads, limit how often they appear, and measure their performance. If you allow tracking, ads may be personalised.

    4.6 App Configuration: The App downloads settings from our configuration service, for example which features are available and whether an update is available.

5. Permissions Required

5.1 Storage Access

  • Purpose: Save and access PDF files

  • iOS: Files app access permission

  • Android: READ/WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE

  • Scope: Limited to PDFox app folder

5.2 Camera Access

  • Purpose: Document scanning and QR code scanning

  • Both Platforms: Camera permission

  • Usage: Only when actively using scanning features

5.3 Photo/Gallery Access

  • Purpose: Image selection for PDF conversion

  • iOS: Photo Library access

  • Android: Gallery/Photos access

  • Scope: Only for selected images

6. Platform-Specific Privacy Features

6.1 iOS Privacy Features

  • App Tracking Transparency (ATT) compliance

  • Photo Library limited access

  • Files app integration

  • iCloud optional backup (user-controlled)

6.2 Android Privacy Features

  • Scoped storage compliance

  • Permission runtime requests

  • Gallery limited access

  • File system integration

7. Third-Party Services

77.1 Google AdMob: Shows banner, full-screen, app-open, native and rewarded video ads. May collect device identifiers, IP address and usage data. See Google's Privacy Policy.

7.2 Google Firebase Analytics: Collects anonymised usage data to help us improve the App.

7.3 Google Firebase Crashlytics: Collects crash reports and device information to help us fix problems.

7.4 Google Firebase Remote Config: Delivers app settings to your device.

7.5 Conversion Service: Files you send for online conversion are processed by [name of the hosting and conversion provider(s)] on our behalf, only to perform the conversion.

7.6 Apple App Store: Processes subscription purchases under Apple's own privacy policy.

8. Data Security

8.1 Processing Security

  • Most document processing occurs on your device
  • Files sent for online conversion are transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection
  • Saved files are protected by your device's built-in security
  • Secure permission handling

8.2 Platform Security Features

  • iOS: Uses iOS security sandbox

  • Android: Uses Android security permissions

  • Both: Follow platform security best practices

9. Data Retention

9.1 Local Documents

  • PDF files remain on your device until you delete them

  • Uninstalling the app may remove local files (platform-dependent)

  • Process history stored locally until cleared

9.2 Third-Party Data

  • Advertising data subject to third-party policies

  • Analytics data anonymized and aggregated

  • No document data retained by third parties

10. Your Rights

10.1 Data Access & Control

  • Access information we collect

  • Request correction of inaccurate information

  • Delete local app data through app settings

  • Clear processing history within the app

10.2 Platform-Specific Controls
For iOS:

  • Manage permissions in iOS Settings

  • Control tracking through ATT


  • Use Files app to manage documents

    • Manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store account settings
    • Limit ad personalisation by denying tracking when asked, or in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, Tracking

For Android:

  • Manage permissions in Android Settings

  • Use device file manager for documents

  • Control app data through system settings

11. Children's Privacy

PDFox is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover such collection, we will immediately delete it.

12. International Users

PDFox is available globally. We process data in accordance with applicable local laws. EU users have GDPR rights, California users have CCPA rights.

13. Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be posted with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued app use constitutes acceptance of updated policy.
